1.1 Purpose/Material Description. This standard specifies the requirements for glass fiber reinforced, heat
stabilized, flame retardant polyamide 66 (Nylon 66) resins and any alloys of polyamide for high voltage insulation
purposes. Materials approved to this specification shall have a halogen and metal free heat stabilizer package
and a halogen free flame retardant package.
1.2 Symbols. The material abbreviations in accordance with ISO 1 043-1 and ISO 1 1 469 are shown in Table 1 .
1.3 Applicability. High voltage (60 VDC to 600 VDC) insulation, both Alternating Current (AC) and Direct
Current (DC).
1.4 Remarks. Materials are classified according to chemistry, percent reinforcement, and continuous
temperature limit. Types listed in the following list will be added as the types become necessary.
• Type A1 – Semi-aromatic polyamide – continuous use temp 1 25 °C
• Type A2 – Semi-aromatic polyamide – continuous use temp 1 50 °C
• Type B1 – Polyamide 66 – continuous use temp 1 25 °C
• Type B2 – Polyamide 66 – continuous use temp 1 50 °C
• Type C2 – Polyphthalamide – continuous use temp 1 80 °C
