Purpose.

General Motors (GM) requires that any use of OSS in GM products shall be disclosed and approved before it is incorporated into a GM product. This requirement applies to GM employees (GM Developers) and third-party tiered suppliers (Suppliers) who create and develop software, regardless of whether the use of OSS is explicitly planned. Authorization for the use of OSS is granted only after GM's Open-Source Compliance Officer, or their official delegate, has reviewed and approved the electronic OSS Bill of Materials (SBOM) that represents production software, as outlined in 3.1.
